The Place on the Net for Kids

First Calgary Savings Book Rapport Educational Programme of WordFest web site is definitely the place on the Net for kids concerning local, national and international children's literature - not to mention an excellent resource for homework.

WordFest is thrilled to welcome Deborah Ellis, author of the internationally
renowned Breadwinner trilogy, to the 2008 Festival

Deborah Ellis
has achieved
international acclaim with her courageous and dramatic books that give Western readers a glimpse into the plight of children in developing
countries. The Breadwinner trilogy, which has been published around the
world in seventeen languages, raised more than half a million dollars in
royalties which were donated to Street Kids International and to Women forWomen, an organization that supports education projects for Afghan girls in refugee camps in Pakistan.
Deborah comes to the Festival with her newest release, Off to War, Voices of Soldiers' Children, in which she interviews the children of Canadian and American soldiers serving in Afghanistan and Iraq. In their own words, they describe how being a soldier's child has affected their lives. Royalties from Off To War are being donated to the Children in Crisis fund of IBBY, the International Board on Books for Young People.
