A young Chinese farmer named Bamboo meets and falls in love with a pretty young woman named Ming. As a wedding gift to her new husband, Ming presents Bamboo with some bamboo seedlings, which they promptly plant in their garden. Shortly after they marry, Bamboo journeys to Canada in hopes of making money for his family. While he is gone, Jin, his sister-in-law, treats Ming very badly; she and her husband destroy the bamboo poles that Ming and Bamboo had planted. Despite all this, Ming continues to be kind and warm to her in-laws. But what will happen as the time of Bamboo’s arrival draws near?
