Richard Harrison (Can)
Richard Harrison (Can) has won widespread accolades for his poetry, and is known for a wide-ranging and eclectic body of work that appeals at once to devotees of poetry and to new readers of the genre. Among his books are Hero of the Play - poetry about hockey that captured many an imagination and earned a reading at Calgary's Saddledome - and Big Breath of a Wish, which was short-listed for a Governor General's Award in 1999. Richard moved to Calgary in the mid-Nineties, and currently teaches creative writing at Mount Royal College. He comes to WordFest this year with a brand-new collection of poems, Worthy of His Fall.

In Big Breath of a Wish, Richard Harrison writes poetry rich in imagery and philosophy about the birth of his daughter and being a father. His poems eloquently describe first words and learning to speak, diaper changing, and the love between parent and child.
