Dennis Lee (Can)
Is one of Canada’s best-known poets. He helped found and served as editor for House of Anansi Press, and his overtly political collection Civil Elegies and Other Poems won the Governor General's Award in 1972. Lee has fed a steady diet of Alligator Pie to countless children across Canada and the world, and his children's books are perhaps his best-known works. He also wrote for the popular Canadian children’s television program Fraggle Rock.
Bubblegum Delicious (HarperCollins Children's Books, 2001)   Publications

A young boy and his dog roam the neighbourhood in search of adventure. Along the way, the boy's imagination creates encounters with fantastic creatures and various exotic animals. David McPhail's illustrations are as integral to the reading as are the delightful poems by Dennis Lee. Admidst the illustrations are hidden poems which add to the book's enjoyment. The poems include Good Morning, a simple poem about waking up in anticipation for the day; The Movies, a celebration of movie going; Goover and Guck, a nonsense poem about cooking with goober and guck; Pollywag Dreams, a fantasy poem about pollywags parachuting through the sky; and The New TV, a tale of a new TV. In addition, Lee also rhapsodizes about the simple joys of a rocking in The Rocking Chair, the mystery of the ocean in The Waves, and the pains and joys of friendship in Blue Balloon.
