The Kids Book of Black Canadian History Kids Can Press, 2003   Publications

The Kids Book of Black Canadian History tells the comprehensive, interesting, and long overdue story of Black Canadians. It covers early complex and sophisticated civilizations in Africa, and examines the impact the slave trade in both Canada and the U.S. had on these civilizations. We read the story of the Black Loyalists who settled in the Maritimes, the story of the Underground Railroad that resulted in the greatest influx of African Americans to Canada, and many more stories. Little known stories such as the settlement in the west - both on the coast and the Prairies - are told. In addition to examining racism and prejudice, the book features achievements of many Black Canadians, fact boxes, detailed illustrations, quotes, legends, and timelines. It also includes profiles of inventors, politicians, writers, artists, scientists, heroes, and athletes, and the mark they left on Canadian history. This addition to "The Kids Book of..." series provides a glimpse into an often-overlooked part of Canadian history, and will enrich everyone's knowledge and appreciation of Canada.
